Go For It Programme / 2009-2011

We can help you get started and Go For It! East Belfast Enterprise is the local delivery agent for the Enterprise Development Programmes funded by Invest NI, within East Belfast . If you are thinking of setting up in business, this is your best starting point. Under the Enterprise Development Programmes you will receive the following help and assistance:

  • Access to a dedicated Client Manager who can discuss your idea with you and point you in the right direction, within a confidential one-to-one setting.
  • Access to a FREE business training course (choose 6 of the most relevant modules from a choice of 11).
  • 16-24 hours of Specialist Mentoring support (eligibility criteria applies, ask your Client Manager for more details).
  • Assistance with completing a Business Plan
  • Subsidised funding towards the creation of your business logo, business stationary and a website.
  • £50 contribution towards membership of a Women's Business Network.

Steps To Work / 2008-2010

Are you unemployed and looking for the opportunity to start your own business?

Steps to Work (StW) is a Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) initiative that became widely available on 29th September 2008, after a successful pilot from April 2007 across four Jobs & Benefits Offices.

Steps to Work is described as a new and fresh approach to assisting people find gainful employment. Its menu-based approach provides a flexible way to help people with their individual employment and training needs.

The programme effectively enables individuals an opportunity to set up in business and Test Trade for a period of up to 26 weeks, whilst still retaining their benefits and gaining an additional weekly training allowance of 15.38.

People claiming Jobseekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Income Support are all eligible for support!

So if you have a good business idea, why not Go For It and ask your Personal Advisor at your Local Job Centre, to refer you to your nearest Enterprise agency for a chat with one our Advisors.

Benefits of the Programme:

  • Get to try viability of business idea first, while retaining benefits
  • Free small business training course
  • Access to a dedicated Business Advisor for ongoing advice and support
  • Assistance towards childcare available for eligible participants

The Lipstick & Money programme is an exciting initiative for women that offers a menu of activities to choose from, which will be offered at your local community centre.

Learn 2 Earn Programme / 2009

Does the idea of perhaps running your own Caf or Restaurant appeal to you?

Perhaps you are looking for a career in Hospitality?

Learn2Earn will give you the professional business and craft skills and specialist support to help turn your dream into reality.

The programme will offer a class once a week. The programme will include sector skills training in Food service and Food preparation. Accredited training course in Customer Service, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety will be provided along with Enterprise and personal development training.

The programme will also offer YOU the chance to run your own business with real customers and you will be offered one to one support at all stages.

When will it start?

Learn2Earn will commence in January 2009 and run one session per week until May 2009, sessions will be available both during the day and in the evening allowing you to select a timetable that best suits your needs.

Who is eligible?

  • Residents of Belfast city Council
  • Individuals with an interest in achieving employment or self employment within the Hospitality Sector
  • Individuals who are unemployed
  • Individuals who can demonstrate a genuine commitment to the programme

Virtual Assistant Programme / 2009

Are you interested in starting your own business?  

Are you looking to return to work?  

Do you want to work form home?

The Virtual Assistant programme will offer you the skills and training to provide back office support to small businesses. The added benefit if that you can do this from home and get paid per hour or per day.

Ultimately you will provide flexible support to a number of small businesses on an ongoing basis.

The programme will offer you a range of training in Personal Development, Microsoft Office, Accounts and Bookkeeping, Administrations Skills, Audio Typing and Minute Taking.

When will it start?

The Programme will commence in January 2009 and run once a week until May 2009, then another Programme will commence in September 2009 and run once a week until December 2009.

Who is eligible?

  • You must be motivated and committed
  • You must have an interest in starting your own Business
  • You must be unemployed
  • You should have an interest in developing your IT skills

The programme is open to both Male and Female.

Exploring Enterprise Programme / 2009-2011

Exploring Enterprise is a free pre start enterprise programme which enables participants to identify a viable business idea whilst allowing them to work towards achieving a recognised qualification.

The objective of the programme is to increase awareness and offer training and development to potential entrepreneurs from disadvantaged communities and under represented groups (e.g. lone parents; women, the over fifties; youth and ethnic minorities). Participants must be unemployed and over 16 years of age.

Participants do not need to have a specific business idea to join; as the programme provides a complete overview and insight into starting a business.

On successful completion of this CCEA accredited training course participants will be awarded VRQ  Level II for the Certificate for Business Enterprise after undertaking accredited modules in Idea Generation, Finance, Marketing and Legal Aspects.
